Kariobangi Children's Home
Founded in 1997, Kariobangi Children’s Home was established to care for and support orphans and vulnerable children, many of whom were deeply affected by the HIV/AIDS crisis. Managed by Mathare Community Outreach, the home offers a safe refuge for children aged 4 to 18 years, providing them with the stability and love they deserve.
Located in the Gitathuru area of Kariobangi North—an area marked by poverty and vulnerability—the home has become a beacon of hope, nurturing children to grow into responsible, confident, and empowered young adults.
A Home Built on Love and Faith
More than a shelter, Kariobangi Children’s Home is firmly rooted in Christian values. Each day includes devotions, prayer, and counseling, fostering not just physical well-being but also spiritual growth and emotional resilience.
Our vision is simple yet profound:
- Vision: To transform the life of an orphaned child into a productive life for the glory of God.
- Mission: To nurture each child into a responsible, mature adult, empowered to address social, economic, physical, and spiritual needs.
What We Provide
At any given time, the home has the capacity to care for up to 110 boys and girls. With the recent completion of a new building, we are expanding our ability to serve even more children in need. Our holistic care includes:
- Shelter & Safety – A secure, nurturing environment where children feel at home.
- Daily Nutrition – Nutritious meals provided each day, ensuring children grow strong and healthy.
- Education – Schooling support, uniforms, and learning materials to prepare them for a brighter future.
- Counseling & Guidance – Ongoing support from volunteers and mentors to build confidence and healing.
- Rescue & Reintegration – Tracing lost children, reuniting them with families where possible, or referring them to appropriate care centers.
- Life Skills – Equipping young people with the values and abilities needed to thrive beyond the home.
How You Can Help
Running the home requires significant resources, and we rely on the generosity of partners, well-wishers, and friends to keep the children safe and thriving. Ongoing needs include:
- Basic essentials: Soap, sanitary products, body oil, undergarments, towels.
- Food supplies: Dry maize, beans, maize flour, cooking oil, vegetables, porridge flour, sugar, salt.
- Education support: School uniforms, exercise books, revision materials, and school fees.
- Household needs: Mattresses, bedding, and furniture.
- Utilities & maintenance: Water, electricity, staff support, and building upkeep.
Together, We Can Transform Lives
Every child who finds refuge at Kariobangi Children’s Home carries a story of resilience. With your support—whether through donations, sponsorships, or partnerships—we can give them not just shelter, but a chance to dream, heal, and build a brighter tomorrow.
